Through support from the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, we are creating an area on HealthGuide OnLine to educate seniors and their caregivers about medical and nonmedical issues that impact a senior's health and functioning. The planned site will cover a variety of topics including general health and lifestyle, legal and financial concerns, living and care options, resources, and caregiving. The project will gather user input from the earliest design stage and fully assess the site's benefit. Initial development includes a careful formative analysis incorporating feedback from interviews of a representative cross-section of seniors, their caregivers, and health professionals. Their input defines the topics of interest and the necessary depth of information. The evaluation of the site will include a study assessing the impact of the site on a senior or caregiver's decision-making ability by asking them to problem-solve through various caregiving scenarios.
