Interactive Health Education--Adventures in Nutriville

Adventures in Nutriville supports the teaching and learning of nutrition and health concepts that are relevant to middle and high school classes of health, home economics/family studies, science, and physical education. Delivered on a CD-ROM, this is a game-oriented program for learning and reviewing nutrition information on such topics as diet and health promotion/disease prevention, the importance of exercise, the role of key nutrients, digestion and absorption, the food label and dietary guidelines, meal planning, and more. The program is suitable to a wide range of curricula and student interests and abilities from grades 5 through 12. Many of the 18 games include three difficulty levels from novice to advanced, and their diverse formats range across a variety of learning styles. Adventures in Nutriville can be used by teachers and students in school environments, home schooling, or just for fun.

Exciting graphics and proven instructional design techniques capture and hold users throughout the program. The 3-D views of the Lab, Market, Gym and Library make them fun places to play and learn. The program provides feedback for correct and incorrect answers in order to reinforce learning. All of the games are linked to appropriate reference tools in the Library-a foods database, an exercise database, a mini-encyclopedia, and a glossary. Navigation is as easy as a mouse click. A Nutrivia glove, as well as hidden bonus questions, animations and sounds delight and engage users. If desired, voice-over can provide verbal instructions to the games.

Adventures In Nutriville won the following award in the Games:

Philadelphia, PA (May 27-28, 1998):
