SelexSys Decision Assistant

Selecting a health plan is a frustrating, complex problem to which SelexSys Decision Assistant provides an innovative solution. The web-based system empowers employees (as consumers) to make informed value-based decisions in selecting an appropriate health plan. By integrating information, knowledge and analysis, this unique interactive environment helps employees become better consumers and participants in the health care system.

The SelexSys approach to simplifying the uncertainty underlying plan selection primarily consists of user profiling and health scenario analysis. Users identify their preferences and health needs and are then given detailed information---including potential out-of-pocket expenses, quality measures, and service features---relating to each alternative plan. Links to providers' database and educational information support the process.

By tracking and quantifying employee preference and anticipated utilization data, SelexSys helps employers (as purchasers) make informed decisions about a health plan's design, evaluation, and selection.

The implementation contains sophisticated tools for dynamic analysis of tradeoffs between multiple criteria using methods such as the analytic hierarchy process, utility theory, and cost-benefit analysis.

Selexsys won the following award in the Games:

Philadelphia, PA (May 27-28, 1998):

  • Innovative Interface Award
