Wired for Health Breast Cancer AwarenessThe Wired for Health Breast Cancer Awareness site (http://www.ywcaak.org) is dedicated to empowering women to take control of their own health and well-being. The site, designed especially to be viewed via publicly accessible WebTV's in Alaska, is a critical component of the Wired for Health Project sponsored by the YWCA of Anchorage, one of five Bridging the Gap initiatives funded by the National Action Plan on Breast Cancer to target underserved populations of women. An audio English and audio Spanish button translates the text on each page and is meant to make the sites easily understandable to low-literacy and non-English speaking women. Buttons on the sidebar provide direct access to a directory of Alaska service providers including the ENCOREplus program, e-mail to site administrators, and an evaluative survey as well as pages of links to other online resources for breast cancer information, printable fact sheets, and breast cancer survivor support. The menu page reflects the following main categories for subsequent pages of graphic and textual information: breast cancer facts, breast anatomy, breast self-exam instructions, mammography, clinical breast exam, diagnostic tests, personal advocacy, breast cancer treatments and survivor support and positive health steps. Wired For Health Breast Cancer Awareness won the following award in the Games: Philadelphia, PA (May 27-28, 1998):
