The Michigan Interactive Health Kiosk Demonstration Project provides motivating preventive health programs to the underserved in urban and rural areas using a network of multimedia touch-screen kiosks. One hundred kiosks, located in highly accessible public areas throughout the State, employ interactive communication strategies for breast and prostate cancer control, cancer risk prevention, smoking cessation and prevention, cardiovascular disease risk prevention, childhood immunization, sexually transmitted diseases, adult and adolescent alcohol use, and child bicycle helmet safety. This first-of-a-kind interactive multimedia health software is developed by the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center Health Media Research laboratory. Using this state-of-the-science interactive multimedia software, the kiosks educate and motivate by delivering custom-tailored health messages. Research has shown that allowing individuals to create their own educational experiences through hands-on, interactive learning improves comprehension and retention of information. Users are also more likely to take action based on the information they receive. Interactive computer-based multimedia provides and unmatched learning experience through a synergy of senses-sight, sound, and touch. Health 'O' Vision won the following awards in the Games: Washington, DC (April 28, 1998):
Philadelphia, PA (May 27-28, 1998):
