IQ (Information Quality) and Prevent It!

Information Quality (IQ) Tool - The vast amounts of health information available online are not always of high quality or from credible sources. The goal of IQ is to provide an interactive, Internet-based tool to teach Internet users how to assess the quality of health information on the Internet. The IQ tool utilizes evaluation criteria developed by the Health Summit Group. This group consists of a wide range of professionals in the healthcare field to ensure unbiased and broad perspectives. The tool converts these criteria into an easy-to-use web-based format and guides users through the evaluation of a site. Based upon the users’ responses, IQ then scores the site. Continued development will yield the option to forward site scores to a friend, an accessible database, or the site itself. Users will become better informed of the information they are retrieving from the Internet and content providers may be prompted to deliver quality materials.
