The National Institute of
Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) is
part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The
Institute conducts biomedical research and disseminates
information on diabetes,
nutrition,
and diseases of the urological,
digestive,
and endocrine
systems to scientists, health professionals, patients,
and the general public. Through the NIDDK web site, the
Institute provides information about research and gives
users access to health education materials, such as fact
sheets for professionals and patients, easy-to-read
booklets for people with limited reading skills, and
Spanish-language materials. The site is linked to the NIH
home page, through which users can access home pages of
other Institutes and offices within NIH, and to the
Combined Health Information Database, a searchable
Federal database that lists health-related journal
articles, textbooks, and patient information materials.
The site was tested on both PC and Mac platforms using a
variety of browsers. All graphics and illustrations are
accompanied by alternative text for visitors who have
limited graphics capability. Information on the site is
provided through standard HTML coding; portable document
file (PDF) formatting is available to download the low
literacy materials in published format.
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases will be at the Showcase and Games in Washington, DC on April 28, 1998.
