Statement of the Subject
The session will describe two innovative telemedicine
test beds that are using the latest in interactive
technologies to meet health needs in the home. Beth
Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston is exploring
how advanced communications technology can be used to
provide enhanced educational, emotional, and medical
support to families with babies in the Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit (NICU).
The Electronic House Calls Project is taking advantage
of a unique partnership among four major organizations to
bring user-friendly multimedia applications in health
directly into the homes of elderly patients. Panel
members will also discuss future plans, barriers that
have been overcome, and barriers that remain.
